Sunday School

class1.jpg

Seekers
Taught by James McNeill. Class begins at 9:15 am Sunday morning in Room 206, above the Grist Library in the Church Office building.
Age Range: ageless

The Seekers class was organized in the late 70's as a new young adult class for couples and singles who were seeking a closer walk with Christ. The literature we use varies, but our favorite studies are those by James W. Moore and J. Ellsworth Kalas. We get together several times each year for a meal either at a restaurant or at a member's home. We are always seeking new members, so please visit us on Sunday mornings or for one of our evening get-togethers.

The Believers
Class begins at 9:30 am in Room 203 (the first room to the left as you exit the elevator on the 2nd floor of the Education Building).
Age Range: 35-45, Singles and Couples

We are a relaxed and outgoing group of young people seeking to grow in our spiritual walk. Using a variety of resources, we look to discover more about God and His truth and its application to our lives. We welcome singles and couples who endeavor to live a fulfilling and fruitful life for Christ and His Kingdom.

The Becomers
Class begins at 9:15 am on Sunday mornings in Room 210 (to the right out of the elevator on the 2nd floor of the Education Building, then 2nd room on the left)
Age Range: 40 and up

Mission: To worship and serve God.

At the present time John Stringer from Pleasant Hill is the excellent teacher.  The class members appreciate the effort that John puts into the lessons as they continue to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and the scripture.

The class contributes to the needs of its church members and the community.  A few of the missions that the class contributes to are the Journey School, Selma Christian Ministries, C.R.O.S.S. Ministry, UMCOR Flood Buckets, etc.  Kenny Green, the class’s's own Chef, has been instrumental in getting the class to have stew sales to help raise the funds for their missions.

The greatest mission of The Becomers is to become Christ-like by knowing the Word, worshiping and loving our Lord, and becoming better witnesses in their homes, church and community.  Any and all are welcome to join the class.

Cornerstone Class
Class begins at 9:15 am Sunday morning in the room above the Sanctuary to the right. Room 202
Age Range: 20's and 30's(There is a rumor that one member is 40 but you would never know it:)

Our class started in 2003 with the goal of making Jesus our cornerstone as we build our lives and our church through the study of His word. We are the fastest growing class in the church with two new members arriving in the next six months. We would love to have you come and join us.

Mary Sweeney Friendship Class
Class begins at 9:15 am in the Fellowship Hall.
Age Range: 60 - 90 yrs

The Friendship Class is a Bible Study class each Sunday morning. We contribute monthly to the Heifer Fund and weekly to the Sunday School General Fund. We participate in kitchen service for all occasions and the Greeters program as needed. We contribute to three Campus Ministries each month. We also contribute to the Methodist Children's Home, The Salvation Army, and Sabra Sanctuary. We enjoy the fellowship of each other.

Pairs and Spares
Class begins at  9:15 in Room 201.

Because our class is blessed with so many good teachers, we use these members plus occasional guests to teach. Class members who teach include Dub Deavor, Fran Pearce, Gale Bedgood, Carolyn & Dick Dunaway, Joy Beers, Bill Smith, and Gail Lovelady. We enjoy open discussions and our class meets Sunday mornings at 9:15 am in the upstairs room that overlooks the sanctuary. Age ranges from mid 50's and up. All are welcome! Our members strive to love, to learn, and to share the will of God. Our plumb line for direction is the Word of God.

The Pairs and Spares Class was begun in 1967 by Nancy Nicholson who served as teacher for around ten years. We have been a service-oriented class, participating in many projects over the years. These projects have included building the outdoor basketball court for the UM Children’s Home, contributing $3,500 to Habitat for Humanity as well as helping to build and feed the workers, planting shrubs for the church and always being available for special needs that come up in our church and community. White Christmas (the annual fund raiser dinner for the UM Children’s Home) has always been a special project for Pairs and Spares and last year alone we contributed over $6,000 to this project. We always do a fish fry downtown for Jesus Day (the first Sunday in May) each year. By being a part of this, we help our community come together in celebration of our love for Jesus. One summer we sent four very deserving young people from Selma Christian Ministries to camp. Other projects we have helped with include Red Cross Disaster Relief, UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), Angel Tree, SABRA Sanctuary, Selma Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and CROSS Ministries (Christians Reaching Others with School Supplies). We have found that we grow closer as we work together by selling bulbs, having fish fries, etc. in order to raise money to fund these projects.

Pairs and Spares invite you to come join our class and have fun with us as we represent our church to the community and share our love for each other and for our Lord.

We meet in the Old Parsonage each Sunday at 9:15. We invite all men who do not currently attend an active class to join us. We enjoy open discussion on today's topics.
