The Reverend Fred E. Zeigler, Senior Pastor, is a native of Montgomery, Alabama. He completed his college work with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Sociology from Tennessee Wesleyan College. Upon his graduation he entered the Candler School of Theology of Emory University where he earned the Master of Divinity degree.


Fred has served on the Alabama/West Florida Conference Board of Ordained Ministry; Chaired the Board of Missions; and was a member of the Conference Council on Finance and Administration. For four years he was the Conference Secretary, chairing the Records Committee and serving on the Journal Committee, the Standing Rules Committee, the Conference Arrangements Committee, and the conference Council on Ministries.

 

Fred has received certification in Stewardship Training. He has also received training in Church Business Administration, and Evangelism; and has completed the Three Year Covenant Community for spiritual Formation and the Academy for Congregational Development. Fred, his wife and daughter were participants in the World Methodist Conference in Brighton, England in 2001.

 

He is married to Marilyn (Perkins) of Wetumpka, Alabama, and they have two children: David and his wife Amanda, living in Smyrna, Georgia, and Jenny graduated from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois in 2009 and is now working Jacksonville, FL.

 

Rev. Janet C. Nabors, Minister of Music and Program, grew up in Decatur, AL and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in music. In 1982, she graduated from Scarritt College in Nashville, TN with a Master's degree in Christian Education. Janet has served 5 United Methodist churches in the past 24 years in Alabama, Florida & Georgia. She joined our staff in September, 2009.  She is a certified Minister of Christian Education and a certified Associate in Church Music in the United Methodist Church. She was consecrated as a Diaconal Minister in 1984 and was Ordained as a Deacon in Full Connection in 1999. She completed The Two Year Academy for Spiritual Formation sponsored by The Upper Room and served on the leadership team for a 3 Year Covenant Community.

 

Mr. Rand Smith, Director of Youth & College Ministries, grew up in Selma and graduated in August 2007 from Auburn University with a degree in Accounting and a minor in Logistics. He served as the part-time Director of Youth Ministries during the summer of 2007 and was hired full-time in August 2007.

 


Mr. Gordon Welch, Organist/Accompanist, has a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and a Masters of Church Music, with an applied area in organ.

He has taught music in the school systems and in various churches, and in 2007 he retired after seventeen years of ministry as Director of the Music Staff of First Baptist Church, Selma. He joined our staff  at Church Street UMC as the Organist on Feb 17, 2008.

He is currently on the faculty of Wallace Community College. Gordon and his wife Elaine live in Selma, as does their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Matthew and Thomas and Lilly McHugh. Their son Jason lives and works in North Carolina.

 

Mrs. Carolyn Parks, Secretary, moved to Selma from Winston- Salem, NC in June of 1998. She is a member of First Presbyterian Church in Selma and joined the staff at Church Street in April 1999. She attended Shorter College in Rome, Ga. where she met her husband, J.D. They celebrated 38 years of marriage in June 2009 and have two sons. Geoffrey and his wife Kristen live in Charlotte, NC where he is the Executive Chef and General Manager of Urest Dining. Matthew, wife Kimberlie, son Tyler, and their twin daughters live in Texas. Matthew is in the US Army. Carolyn has served in many leadership roles within her church, including becoming an ordained Elder in 1989. She brings with her a love for the Lord that allows her to minister to the members of Church Street on a daily basis through the position of Church Secretary.

 

Mrs. Ann Adams, Financial Secretary, is a native of Selma, AL. She was hired here at Church Street July 28, 2003. Her responsibilities include keeping records of contributions, payroll and accounts payable, etc. She is married to Bruce Adams and they have three sons Chad, Britt, and Cade and five grandchildren.

 

Mr. Luke Weerts, Facilities Director, has lived in Selma over ten years in the Old Town Historic District with his wife, Christine. He has a work background in teaching and information technology.  His hobbies include home remodeling, woodworking, and genealogy. He and his wife were born in the Midwest and have lived in the West, Midwest, and South including both Mississippi and Alabama. Luke is the son of Lutheran school teachers and has been educated in Lutheran schools. He has been employed by Lutheran schools in Denver, Chicago, and Selma.

 

Mrs. Fannie Smith, Housekeeper, has been at Church Street for 6 years and was married to the late Mitchell Smith. They have 8 children, 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Fannie is a member of East Salem Baptist Church.

 

Mr. Willie Rand, Custodian, has been working at Church Street for 10 years. He is married and they have five children. Willie enjoys watching sports in his spare time. He and his family are members of Hope Baptist Church.  Willie is currently on medical leave.
